Manchester United are in the midst of a dire sophomore campaign under Erik ten Hag.

Though spirits are somewhat high heading into January 2024 after Sir Jim Ratcliffe’s minority investment in the club was announced, it remains to be seen whether his funds will influence their transfer business on the incoming front. One thing is certain, though, there will be some high-profile outgoings.

Sancho was signed for big money amid much fanfare in the summer of 2021, the England winger completing an €85 million transfer that had been a year in the making.

But it simply hasn’t worked out and the England international has been in Red Devils exile for months after publically calling Erik ten Hag a liar. Speculation about his future has abounded and the winger will reportedly leave the club in January. However, it will only be a loan deal.

As FootballTransfers exclusively revealed, the 23-year-old believes that he can outlive Ten Hag at Old Trafford and that the next coach will bring him back into the fold, therefore he is reluctant to agree to a permanent move – also because he is unlikely to keep his massive salary at his next club.

Juventus and Borussia Dortmund have been most prominently linked with Sancho, but it remains to be seen whether they can afford him.

A player perhaps even more certain to depart than Sancho is Donny van de Beek. Man Utd and Eintracht Frankfurt have reportedly already reached a loan agreement with an option buy that is said to be in the region of just €10m.

His potential permanent exit in the summer will end his unhappy spell at Old Trafford, which has been disrupted by injury and frequent managerial changes.

Another player on the way out of Manchester is Hannibal Mejbri, though he will almost certainly return to the club in the summer. The Tunisia international has been made available for loan and won’t be heading to AFCON so as to be able to complete his move.

Sevilla, Freiburg and Lyon are interested in the midfielder who, at one point this season, looked on the verge of winning himself a regular starting spot before being pushed by the wayside again. His contract is up in the summer, but United have a one-year option and are in talks over a proper new deal.

Casemiro

Brazil international Casemiro is facing an uncertain future at Man Utd. Age appears to be catching up with the 31-year-old and Saudi interest in his services is ramping up.

Rumour has it that the midfielder is unhappy at Man Utd due to their struggles this season and has been seriously considering departing in 2024. The veteran has also been linked with PSG.

Raphael Varane

Raphael Varane is in the same boat as Casemiro. Interest in him has increased in light of United’s struggles this season and speculation about his future has been fuelled by him losing his place in Erik ten Hag’s side due to his frequent fitness issues.

What’s more, his contract actually expires in the summer of 2024 and not 2025 as initially reported. Though United have an option to extend his deal by a year, they could cash in on the 30-year-old who has suitors in Saudi Arabia and at Bayern.
