Arsenal transfer news LIVE: Gunners eye Victor Boniface, Thomas Partey Afcon status CONFIRMED, Ivan Toney LATEST

Toon set for windfall if Arsenal land Toney

Newcastle and Peterborough are set for huge windfalls if Arsenal sign Ivan Toney.

The Brentford striker has been strongly linked with a move to the Gunners this month.

Arsenal face competition from Chelsea and Tottenham, though, with Toney reportedly valued at £100million by the Bees.

A deal worth that amount would see both Newcastle and League One Peterborough pocket millions thanks to their sell-on clauses.

According to Sky Sports, Posh have a 30 per cent clause included in the £5million deal that took Toney to Brentford in 2020.

Meanwhile, Newcastle would receive 30 per cent of that amount after selling the forward to Peterborough two years earlier.

Those clauses would see Darren Ferguson’s side receive £30million if Toney is sold for £100million, with the Magpies then cashing £9million from that figure.

Newcastle previously received £1.5million from Toney’s 2018 move to Brentford.

Gunners set for Middle East escape

Arsenal are set to jet off to Dubai this month.

The trip for warm-weather training is planned for after Sunday’s FA Cup third round tie with Liverpool, The Mirror say.

But the exact timing is uncertain in case of a replay.

Ghana explain why Partey’s out of AFCON

Ghana boss Chris Hughton has gone into details over why Arsenal midfielder Thomas Partey has not been picked for the African Cup of Nations.

Partey has been out since October following surgery on a thigh problem that Hughton called “substantial” and his biggest injury” ever.

The ex-Newcastle chief added: “He is one of our most important players… withstanding his injury, he certainly would be in the squad.

“I’ve spent a lot over this period of time with Thomas and also engaging with the medical staff at Arsenal Football Club.

“They will treat this injury with caution, and so will the player. This is a big injury for him and the biggest injury that he’s had.

“The most important thing for me as head coach and our association is to give him the support that he needs through this period of time.

“From all the information that we’ve been given, the timelines of his recovery and the caution that will be taken, will not meet our timelines for the AFCON.”

Partey exit would hit title chances’

Ray Parlour claims keeping Thomas Partey would boost Arsenal’s title hopes.

But the Gunners legend also suggested the Ghana anchorman should be offloaded if the only alternative was a big new deal.

Parlour told Danish magazine Tipsbladet: “If they won’t give him the long-term contract he wants, it might be better to let him go.

He has been somewhat injury-prone, and Arsenal probably doesn’t want to put the money on the table that his agent wants.

So, it might quickly prove better to let him go and get some money for him instead. It’s all about the right balance.”

“It’s the same situation they faced with Granit Xhaka; if you lose him, you lose him, and let’s move on.

“But in an ideal world, I believe a player like Partey should be at least part of the squad if Arsenal wants to win the title.”

Spurs set to beat Arsenal and United to Radu

Tottenham are expected to fend off Arsenal and Manchester United to sign Genoa centre-back Radu Dragusin.

Transfer guru Fabrizio Romano Spurs have agreed personal terms to with the13-cap Romanian.

Dragusin, 21, joined Genoa permanently from Juventus in January 2023 following a successful loan spell.

Arsenal ‘lack options’ – Carragher

Jamie Carragher has lamented Arsenal’s lack of forward options and thinks they should be addressed in the January market.

The Gunners have been goal shy of latewith their front line oftern drawing blanks.

Carragher told Sky Sports: “They’re all having really good seasons [Arsenal’s forwards] but the gold standard of shot conversion is 20-plus. That’s what your Mo Salah, your Erling Haaland, your Harry Kane is getting.

“None of Arsenal’s front four have got above that number even last season. And yet they are still creating the same number of shots a game and they’ve still got the same xG so these players are underperforming from last season, when even then still wasn’t good enough in terms of winning a title.

“All four of Arsenal’s front are top players but none of them are world class. I think Saka can become world class, but in this league Liverpool won a title because they had Mo Salah. City have won titles in the past because they had [Sergio] Aguero and they’ve now got Haaland. Is that enough for Arsenal to win a league title? Are any of them world class right now to take Arsenal to a title? I’d say no.”
