Luke Littler hits back at Sky Sports question after darts heartbreak – “Why you laughing?” | Football | Sport

Littler won the hearts of the nation over the last two weeks as he soared to the final at Alexandra Palace, where new world No 1 Luke Humphries awaited.

He will have started to believe as he raced into a 4-2 lead before Humphries rallied, winning five straight sets to lift his maiden world title and cement his status as the best arrowsmith on the planet.

Littler’s consolation prizes weren’t shabby. The teenager earned £200,000 for his World Darts Championship exploits and, on Thursday, was named in the Premier League Darts 2024 line-up.

Appearing on Sky Sports after the announcement, the conversation was suddenly directed towards his beloved United and the disastrous second year of the Ten Hag era.

As Paton, who hosted Sky Sports’ World Darts Championship coverage, laughed as she asked for Littler’s thoughts on the season so far, he interrupted: “Why are you laughing? Why are you laughing?”

Paton responded by insisting they were “in it together” due to their shared Red Devils allegiances before Wayne Mardle added that the club’s situation was funny.

“I think it’s been difficult with the injuries we’ve got and everything,” Littler added before defending Ten Hag further.

“Everyone is saying Ten Hag out and this and that, but I say just give him time and when the players are all back fit, see what he does with his starting XI. See who he chooses.”

Paton and Littler will have experienced the same pain in recent months, with United already losing 14 times this season, exactly half of their games.

Ten Hag’s side’s Carabao Cup defence ended in the fourth round, and they finished rock bottom of their Champions League group, eliminating them from Europe entirely.
