Manchester United are ramping up their efforts to sign Ecuadorian starlet Oscar Zambrano, according to reports. A number of other Premier League clubs are thought to be eyeing up the teenager, who many believe is good enough to become the next Moises Caicedo.
Zambrano was born in the same city as Caicedo and they both earned their stripes in Ecuador. Caicedo ditched Independiente del Valle to sign for Brighton back in 2021, before joining Chelsea in a British-record £115million move two years later.
As a first-team regular in midfield for LDU Quito, scouts have swarmed around Zambrano and United are believed to be in the mix. Diario Ole Ecuador claim that the Red Devils are now ‘accelerating’ their efforts to sign the youngster as rival suitors close in.
Bournemouth are reportedly primed to strike, with an offer in excess of £4m set to land in Quito this week. But the Cherries could find themselves outmuscled if United lodge a proposal of their own.

The Ecuadorian side’s reported £5.5m valuation suggests that Bournemouth’s offer will be rejected, leaving a window of opportunity for others to swoop in. Brighton and Luton Town are also linked with the up-and-comer.
The level of competition for Zambrano’s signature has become so intense that his future is expected to be decided ‘within the next few hours’. The midfield maestro is already capped up to Under-20 level with Ecuador.
Lack of goals is a glaring issue that needs resolving at United, with big-money summer signing Rasmus Hojlund failing to come up with the goods, and Marcus Rashford suffering a nosedive in form.
Bayern Munich striker Eric Maxim Choupo-Moting and RB Leipzig forward Timo Werner have both been touted as potential loan targets, despite neither player putting up groundbreaking numbers during their respective spells in the Premier League.
