Gio Reyna‘s future at Borussia Dortmund is looking increasingly uncertain, according to German media.

The United States men’s national team talent is struggling for game time at Borussia Dortmund. So far this term, the 21-year-old has only featured in a measly 320 minutes across 12 outings in all competitions.

Fitness issues have plagued Reyna throughout his entire time in Germany and this season got off to the worst possible start, with him dealing with a lengthy layoff. There have been rumours that head coach Edin Terzic does not trust the youngster, particularly due to his inability to stay fit.

Indeed, his early-season injury may have been the straw that broke the camel’s back for Terzic and it is increasingly looking like Reyna’s BVB career is coming to an end.

Reyna has high-profile suitors

According to Sky Germany, the 21-year-old is, unsurprisingly, keen to depart the club this month and there is certainly no shortage of interest in his services.

The likes of Sevilla, Olympique Marseille and Champions League side Real Sociedad are all credited with an interest in the erstwhile wonderkid, though it was not disclosed whether any potential deal would be a loan or a permanent departure.

A loan would certainly make more sense from Dortmund’s perspective as Marco Reus is out of contract in the summer. Reyna could fill the attacking midfield void left by the club legend’s potential departure next season, though the American’s deal expires in 2025, so it would be a gamble.

Sporting director Sebastian Kehl, for his part, admitted on Sunday that there is no guarantee that Reyna will still be a Dortmund player come the end of the transfer window. “Right now, I can’t say for sure [whether he will stay or go],” he told Sky90.
