Arsenal transfer news: Cedric Soares is in talks with Super Lig club Besiktas over January exit

Cedric Soares is in talks over a move away from Arsenal this month, with Super Lig club Besiktas leading the charge, FootballTransfers can reveal.

We are told that in the wake of Besiktas’ recent announcement of Fernando Santos as their new head coach, the Turkish club are in discussions with the Portuguese right-back.

There is already a connection between Santos and Soares which dates back to the triumphant Euro 2016 campaign, where Portugal emerged as champions under Santos’ management.

Soares ends his contract with Arsenal on 30 June and has been the target of several approaches in this market, and Besiktasis one of the clubs that has shown the most interest in the Portuguese international.

Although no offer has yet been made, we are told that talks have intensified in recent days.

The 32-year-old can now sign as a free player for next season. In this sense, Arsenal shouldn’t complicate the conclusion of a possible deal. The Portuguese defender has only played two games this season.

Fernando Santos targets Arsenal man

Sources close to the negotiation process reveal that the newly appointed head coach is keen on reuniting with Soares, whom he considers a valuable asset on the field. During the Euro 2016 tournament, Santos and Soares developed a strong rapport, with the right-back playing a pivotal role in Portugal’s success.
