Ex-Chelsea star John Obi Mikel has urged his former side to push to sign Napoli forward Victor Osimhen at the end of the season. The Blues are keen to sign a marquee No. 9 as soon as possible and are assessing all available options, with a summer transfer looking the likeliest of options.
Mauricio Pochettino’s side have endured a torrid start to the season, winning just nine of their opening 21 league matches. Chelsea sit in ninth place in the Premier League as a result, and significant improvement is required if they are to push for European football.
Performances at Stamford Bridge have been short of creativity and quality, which is a major cause for concern among supporters given that Todd Boehly has splashed out over £1billion on new signings since purchasing the club.
The Blues still appear in need of reinforcements in nearly all departments, though their lack of a world-class striker is the most pressing issue. Chelsea are scouring the market for both short and long-term solutions, and Mikel has urged his side to take another financial hit and sign fellow Nigerian Osimhen.
In an X-rated rant, the ex-midfielder said: “We need a striker, simple as that. We need a good one. If you watch (Erling) Haaland, most of his goals, where are they? In the f***ing box. The box. So that’s where we need a striker to score goals – to get in the f***ing box.”
“For me, the one we need is Osimhen because he’s someone who would come in and score goals. He’s not the most technical guy but what he does is get you goals and that’s what we really need, we need goals. When I see him I can tell he is at the Chelsea level and he’ll get better with time.
