FANS loved Erling Haaland’s instant chilling reaction when Cristiano Ronaldo hailed himself as the world’s best goalscorer.
Al-Nassr frontman Ronaldo, 38, was clearly proud to officially be last year’s top goal-getter in senior leagues.
And beaming Ronaldo told the awards audience in Dubai: “I was the best goalscorer this season.
“Imagine beating young animals like Haaland… I’m proud. And I’ll be 39 soon!
“I like when people doubt me again and then I’m successful. I don’t get affected by the criticism.”
There was a cheeky smile on the five-time Ballon d’Or winner’s face.
But Haaland, 23, responded with a blank look that might have been mistaken for a death-stare – had he been looking at anyone in particular.
And in fact the Norwegian poacher quickly broke into a slightly happier smirk.
Meanwhile, Ronaldo added more self-praise as he joked: “I still look good, so I’m proud.”
And Haaland was soon the main man anyway as he was named best player overall.
Viewers, however, promptly saluted Ronaldo for his own reaction to that decision.
The ex-Juventus frontman kept pointing to Haaland ahead of the announcement – then applauded enthusiastically after the award was confirmed.
One fan said of Ron’s behaviour: “No wonder he’s idolized by every youngster.”
Another wrote: “Cristiano saying Haaland deserves it” – followed by a heart emoji.
And a third even claimed: “This is the difference between him and Messi.”
