Bayern Munich’s Eric Maxim Choupo-Moting “would be open to joining Manchester United” if Erik ten Hag’s side decide to pursue the forward, according to Fabrizio Romano.

Man Utd have been heavily linked with signing a new striker during the January transfer window following Rasmus Hojlund’s struggles so far this season.

The Denmark international moved to Old Trafford from Atalanta last summer and has netted just twice in 16 Premier League appearances. Both of those goals have come since Christmas, however, suggesting Hojlund is beginning to find his feet in Manchester.

Regardless, Ten Hag’s team are reportedly interested in bringing in a new number nine in order to provide competition and back-up for Hojlund.

Anthony Martial has been filling that role, but the former AS Monaco wonderkid has fallen out with Ten Hag and is set to run down his contract, which expires at the end of June.

Jonathan David is one player on Man Utd’s radar, as revealed by FootballTransfers, while a move for veteran forward Choupo-Moting has been touted as an option.

Romano has now confirmed that the Bayern star would be open to moving to Old Trafford in 2024.

What has Fabrizio Romano said about Eric Maxim Choupo-Moting joining Man Utd?

Transfer expert Romano spoke to GiveMeSport and admitted: “To have an experienced option like Choupo-Moting to be competitive in both the Bundesliga and Champions League could be important in Bayern’s second half of the season.

“They still hope to keep the player at the club, but Choupo-Moting would be open to joining Man Utd. So, I think it’s up to United. If Man Utd decide to attack the situation strongly, I think Choupo-Moting could be a candidate.

“But, at the moment, I’m not aware of any direct negotiation yet, and it remains something quiet so far.

“They [Bayern] are hoping for him [Choupo-Moting] to stay, but if an English club comes in with some money for a loan deal, then the situation could still be open. He is probably the only player who can leave Bayern, but in general, they want to keep this squad together.”
