Chelsea and Man Utd presented ideal £18m transfer fix by rivals Newcastle | Football | Sport

Chelsea, Manchester United and Arsenal could attempt to solve their issues in front of goal by signing Newcastle striker Callum Wilson. The Magpies are said to be considering cashing in on the England international before the winter transfer window closes in their quest to stay in line with the Premier League’s Profit and Sustainability Rules (PSR).

Newcastle signed Wilson from Bournemouth for around £20million in September 2020, with the 31-year-old going on to bag 46 goals in 102 appearances for the north east giants. The striker has endured an injury-hit spell on Tyneside, however, and is no longer guaranteed a regular starting place due to the excellent form of Alexander Isak.

In fact, Wilson has started just seven Premier League matches this season after being named in Eddie Howe’s starting line-up only 21 times in the top-flight throughout the last campaign. But the player has had no issues finding the back of the net.

Wilson racked up 18 Premier League goals last term and has contributed seven top-flight strikes this time around. He clearly knows where the back of the net is and could fix problems some of the top teams in England are currently facing.

According to the Evening Standard, Wilson could be available for just £18m. Chelsea, Manchester United and Arsenal have all been alerted to his availability, with the three clubs all keen to sign a striker.

Chelsea failed to score in five of their first 16 Premier League matches this term but have shown signs of progression in recent weeks after picking up 12 points from their last five games and climbing above Newcastle to ninth.

United, meanwhile, have been dismal in front of goal and have only managed to score 24 goals in 21 league games this season. Rasmus Hojlund was brought to Old Trafford to huge fanfare last summer after the club gave Atalanta £72m in exchange for his services. But the Denmark international has only been able to get his name on the scoresheet twice in the Premier League.

Arsenal were scoring goals for fun at the start of the campaign as they battled with Tottenham for top spot. But they have been guilty of profligacy in the final third in recent weeks and were unable to find the back of the net during December defeats against Aston Villa and West Ham.

Goalscorers are worth their weight in gold and usually come with a huge price tag. But due to Wilson’s age and Newcastle’s apparent desire to sell, there could be a bargain to be had. And Chelsea, United and Arsenal could now be falling over themselves for the opportunity to secure Wilson’s signature and unleash him over the coming weeks.
