Man Utd may miss out on ‘next Jude Bellingham’ to Premier League rivals | Football | Sport

United have endured a tricky start to the season, winning just 10 of their 21 league matches. Erik ten Hag has come under immense pressure as a result, though it isn’t the only factor that has prompted speculation to grow that the Dutchman could be sacked.

The ex-Ajax boss’ recruitment strategy has raised serious questions, with some of his most-desired signings underperforming markedly at Old Trafford, including Andre Onana, Antony and Sofyan Amrabat.

As a result, Sir Jim Ratcliffe is keen to shake up the recruitment side of things, and the INEOS owner was reportedly pushing to lay down a marker by signing teenage playmaker Bergvall, amid interest from Barcelona.

However, it has emerged that the Red Devils are not the Premier League side monitoring the situation of the Swedish international. According to talkSPORT, City are also among Bergvall’s suitors and have been heavily scouting him with the view of lodging a bid in the summer transfer window.

Brighton are also in the frame and have shown a strong interest in signing the midfielder, who does not turn 18 until February. The Seagulls are said to be keen to lean on their reputation for providing a clear pathway for youngsters to break into their first team and compete at the very highest level.

Numerous European outfits are also interested in signing Bergvall, and United will be holding that they can persuade the Swede to commit his future to the club – having welcomed him to train with their youth team previously. The teenager is also understood to be a Red Devils supporter, with 90min reporting that United intend on meeting with the teenager’s entourage to try and thrash out a deal.

Bergvall is widely regarded as one of the most exciting youngsters in Europe, being heavily compared with Real Madrid star Jude Bellingham due to his immense impact in the final third from midfield. With that in mind, the similarities between the two could spur United to push aggressively to strike a deal with Swedish side Djurgardens. That’s given that they missed out on Bellingham to Borussia Dortmund in 2020 after failing to convince his camp of their project and the immediate opportunities that the now-England international could have been offered.
