Man Utd set for £100m transfer fire sale with Mason Greenwood first to be sold as Ratcliffe plots dressing room overhaul

MASON GREENWOOD is the first name Manchester United are looking to sell as part an overhaul of the playing squad, according to reports.

Following the purchase of a 25 per cent stake in Man Utd, Sir Jim Ratcliffe‘s Ineos team will take over the clubs football operations.

This will see them commit to a structural overhaul of how the club operates behind the scenes, with Ineos already moving to appoint former Manchester City chief Omar Berrada as the club’s CEO.

And once the purchase is ratified by Premier League bosses, their next step will be to offload players.

Greenwood, 22, has been on loan at Getafe this season.

SunSport exclusively revealed earlier this week that Greenwood is edging closer to a “dream move” to Barcelona.

And i Sport names Greenwood on a list of stars the Red Devils could look to axe in the summer.

The report claims Man Utd see academy graduate Scott McTominay as “replaceable”, with the club hoping for West Ham to return with a new offer for the midfielder in the summer.

Hannibal Mejbri and Alvaro Fernandez – who have both been sent on loan to Sevilla and Benfica respectively – have clauses in their loan transfers which may make their moves permanent.

These sales could see Man Utd earn £100million in sales from just academy products, before the offloading of expensive flops is even considered.

Aaron Wan-Bissaka, Casemiro, Antony and Jadon Sancho are also on the list of players Ratcliffe’s team want to get off the books.

Casemiro in particular is said to be viewed as “everything that is wrong” regarding Man Utd’s transfer policy – signing expensive players whose best years are behind them.

The i reports adds several players have been offered to Saudi Arabian clubs following a trip to the country by current director of football John Murtough during the Club World Cup last month.

Meanwhile, potential incoming’s this month appear to be a non-starter.

SunSport revealed Man Utd have turned down the chance to sign Karim Benzema from Al-Ittihad due to “exorbitant” transfer sums being involved in the deal.

It comes despite news Anthony Martial will be out for ten weeks -leaving Rasmus Hojlund as the only recognised senior striker at Old Trafford.

Man Utd will be back in action on Sunday when they face off with Newport County in the FA Cup.
