Dejan Kulusevski reportedly played a key role in convincing Lucas Bergvall to join him at Tottenham. The teenager looked destined to join Barcelona last month after a series of conversations with his entourage but he opted to head to the Premier League on deadline day.
Spurs were one of the busiest Premier League clubs in the January window, with Ange Postecoglou being rewarded for guiding his side to a strong start to the season with key reinforcements.
With their backline appearing to be short of depth, Spurs managed to fend off a hijack attempt from Bayern Munich to strike a £26million deal with Genoa for centre-back Radu Dragusin. Tottenham then reached a quick-fire agreement with RB Leipzig for Timo Werner on a loan-to-buy deal in the hope of adding a spark to their attacking ranks.
Tottenham remained in the market for potential new signings up until the dying embers of deadline day, and their patience has paid off. Spurs were desperate to secure the signature of Bergvall throughout the window and they managed to turn the head of the Djurgardens midfielder and convince him to snub Barcelona in favour of joining the club.
The playmaker held several rounds of talks with the Spanish side but had a change of heart on deadline day and decided that he would join Tottenham on Friday, on his 18th birthday. Bergvall is widely regarded as one of the most exciting prospects in Europe and Spurs will feel that they have secured a bargain in striking an £8.5million.
Postecoglou and Daniel Levy may have Dejan Kulusevski to thank for the signing though, with Fabrizio Romano reporting that the winger spoke with his Swedish teammate and spoke incredibly of Tottenham and their ongoing project.
