Mbappe scored his 20th Ligue 1 goal of the season on Friday night as PSG downed Strasbourg and also had a penalty saved early on.
The Parisians have now extended their lead at the top of the French league to nine points but there remains considerable uncertainty over the future of their main star.
His latest contract was signed in 2022 and is until summer 2024 with the player holding an option over whether to extend it into 2025.
Mbappe contract stand-off
PSG accepted a world record bid from Saudi Arabia’s Al-Hilal last summer, worth around €300 million, but Mbappe declined to move to the Saudi Pro League.
A contract standoff last season saw Mbappe temporarily banished from the first-team picture and he trained with PSG’s “bomb squad”, players who the club were looking to offload.
The situation has been patched up this term with Mbappe leading the goalscoring charts and in fine form for his club.
Liverpool have also been mentioned as a possible destination for the 25-year-old but there is uncertainty over the Reds’ transfer business with no sporting director in place and Jurgen Klopp set to depart at the end of the season.
Romano claims Real are working hard in the background to ensure they land Mbappe and that the player is set to communicate his decision to PSG president Nasser al-Khelaifi imminently.
“[The] Kylian Mbappe situation remains one to follow in the next days and weeks,” Romano told subscribers to his official YouTube channel. “Waiting for his final decision on the future, with Paris Saint-Germain and Real Madrid both expecting Mbappe to announce his decision soon, we will see when, on his future.
“Still waiting for Kylian’s communication, he will communicate first to the president, Nasser al-Khelaifi, and then we will know the story.
“But for sure, behind the scenes, Real Madrid keep working very strong and very hard on Kylian Mbappe deal. So Real Madrid are on it.”
