Arsenal face £12m summer transfer dilemma as Chelsea misery piled on by rivals | Football | Sport

Arsenal have a significant decision to make about the future of Jorginho. The midfielder has five months left on his contract at the Emirates Stadium and has been linked with a move away, but he could have more to offer in the Premier League.

Jorginho was a surprise inclusion in the Gunners’ starting XI to face Liverpool over the weekend, completing Mikel Arteta’s midfield trio alongside Declan Rice and Martin Odegaard. The decision to start the Italian international proved the correct one though, with the maestro receiving the man of the match award in his side’s 3-1 win.

The midfielder played a key role in the Gunners’ success, dictating the tempo of the match and luring Liverpool’s forwards into pressing with his patient approach. Jorginho received plenty of plaudits for his display, though it remains to be seen how much longer Arsenal fans will be able to see the No. 20 at work in north London.

The midfielder only has five months left on his contract with Arsenal and speculation surrounding his future is beginning to grow. Since his £12million switch from Chelsea, numerous Italian clubs have been linked with signing Jorginho and that interest is unlikely to fizzle out.

Although he has only made 14 Premier League appearances so far this season, starting just five games, the former Napoli star has made a significant impact at Arsenal. Jorginho has provided experience both on and off the pitch, having won numerous trophies throughout his career, and his influence cannot be understated.

The Gunners have a young squad and therefore having leaders for prospects to look up to is an important asset if Arteta is to lead the club to silverware over the course of this season. Youngsters are likely to be targeted once more in the summer, and Arsenal must decide whether Jorginho will be required to settle those characters into the squad and lead by example at the training ground.
