Arsenal reportedly remain interested in Sporting star Ousmane Diomande, despite his downturn in form over the past few months. The Gunners were heavily linked with the centre-back during the January transfer window but opted to put their pursuit on pause until the campaign concludes.
Mikel Arteta’s side opted not to splash last month in favour of putting further trust in those already on the books at the Emirates Stadium. Arsenal have made a sensational start to the season, winning 15 of their 23 matches, and have firmly asserted themselves as Premier League title contenders.
Numerous stars have stepped up and made their mark already this season, and Arteta was keen to emphasise the confidence that he has in his squad by not pushing for signings during the January window when some of their rivals, such as Tottenham, were strengthening.
Ivorian defender Diomande was among those linked with a move to north London over the past few weeks, and those links are expected to resurface towards the end of the season when Arsenal begin to plot their summer moves.
The 20-year-old has enjoyed a strong start to the season with Sporting and was expected to truly put himself on the map when representing the Ivory Coast at the Africa Cup of Nations. However, he has struggled to do so.
Instead, Diomande has been dropped by manager Emerse Fae, which Record report is a ‘worry’ for Sporting as they were keen for the centre-back to put himself in the shop window at the competition.
