The Chelsea star has been in the news a lot lately. His father revealed in late January that the Argentine World Cup winner was unhappy with the current situation at Stamford Bridge due to the Blues’ inconsistent form not only this term but ever since he arrived a year ago.
Off the back of this, FootballTransfers was told by sources that the midfielder had actively begun exploring his options over whether a potential departure from London was feasible. This had a seismic effect, prompting responses from his agent, head coach Mauricio Pochettino and the player himself after scoring a stunning free-kick against Aston Villa in the FA Cup.
The official Chelsea line is, naturally, that Fernandez, the face of the Todd Boehly project and the club’s erstwhile record signing, is not for sale. However, that hasn’t silenced speculation about the ambitious 23-year-old’s future, with a sensational report now claiming that Fernandez wants to play for Barcelona.
Fernandez to emulate Messi?
According to Sport, the Chelsea man is ‘seduced’ by the idea of playing for the Blaugrana. Fernandez, of course, is an international teammate of arguably Barcelona’s greatest-ever player in Lionel Messi, so it seems only natural that he would have a soft spot for the Catalans.
The Spanish outlet goes so far as to assert that “through his agent, he [Fernandez] has offered himself to the Blaugrana to see how a transfer could occur, which today is highly unlikely.” Given Barcelona’s current finances, a move is off the table.
