Cristiano Ronaldo rubbed an opposition team’s scarf on his crotch in a bizarre outburst in Saudi Arabia. The Al-Nassr forward has grown frustrated by taunts from rivals fans since his switch to the Middle East.
In a viral social media clip, Ronaldo is seen walking down the tunnel after Al-Nassr’s top-of-the-table clash with Al-Hilal. He is clearly angered after a disappointing 2-0 defeat that leaves his side with plenty of work to do if they are to win the Saudi Pro League.
Opposition fans then throw two Al-Hilal-branded scarves in his direction. The Manchester United and Real Madrid icon picks up one of the scarves and seems to put them inside the front of his shorts.
Shockingly, Ronaldo then rubs the scarf against his crotch. He then angrily tosses it away to his right as he continues down the tunnel alongside a member of staff.
Al-Hilal moved seven points clear of Al-Nassr on Thursday night, with the league leaders still unbeaten in the Saudi top-flight. Goals from Sergej Milinkovic-Savic and Salem Aldawsari saw off Ronaldo and co., whose defeat was their third of the campaign.
Ronaldo has grown angered by mocking from rivals fans since moving to the Middle East at the start of 2023. Some supporters taunt the 39-year-old by chanting the name of his long-term rival Lionel Messi.
After hearing the name of the Barcelona legend on Thursday night, Ronaldo appeared to turn towards the section of supporters singing the chant, point to himself, and declare “I’m here”.
Ronaldo was the flag-bearer for high-profile stars moving to Saudi Arabia. His switch after his abrupt exit from Man Utd in 2022 prompted a swathe of the world’s biggest names accepting lucrative deals in the Middle East.
The Portugal captain has continued the remarkable goalscoring exploits since signing for Al-Nassr. He has scored 20 league goals in 18 appearances this season, with a further four coming in cup competitions.
However, the Riyadh-based team have struggled to keep up with Al-Hilal in the Pro League. Only in his short spell in Sporting Lisbon’s first team has Ronaldo failed to win the domestic league for his club.
He won the Premier League three times with United, La Liga twice with Madrid, and Serie A on two occasions with Juventus. Ronaldo’s outburst is evidence of a player frustrated by his team’s struggles to dominate.
