Liverpool to be humbled by Real Madrid again as second target set for summer transfer | Football | Sport

Liverpool look set to be handed a double transfer blow at the end of the season by Real Madrid having already missed out on Jude Bellingham to the La Liga outfit last year. The Reds are expected to splash the cash in the summer, though two of their top targets appear to be Bernabeu-bound.

Jurgen Klopp has reaped the benefits of his spending spree last summer, with his new-look midfield breathing a new lease of life into the squad and providing boundless energy in the centre of the pitch.

The Anfield outfit have had an impressive season so far and have reclaimed their status as title contenders, winning 16 of their 24 league matches to put themselves top of the Premier League.

With Klopp set to leave Liverpool at the end of the season, summer signings are anticipated to mark the arrival of a new manager with fresh ideas – with Xabi Alonso of Bayer Leverkusen the leading contender to return to Merseyside.

However, the Reds could be handed two bitter pills to swallow before the summer window even opens as two of their targets, Alphonso Davies and Kylian Mbappe, have both been heavily linked with joining Real Madrid when the campaign concludes.

Los Blancos’ interest in the latter is no secret and they have attempted to lure him away from Paris Saint-Germain on numerous occasions previously, seeing several world-record bids knocked back for the France international.

But their patience could pay off, with Mbappe set to become a free agent in July. Liverpool have been linked with Mbappe too, though there has been an aura of uncertainty surrounding whether they have the finances to sign the 25-year-old.

According to HITC, Davies is firmly in the sights of Liverpool. Manchester City are also among the admirers of the Bayern Munich full-back.

The Canada international has asserted himself as one of the best left-backs in world football over the past few years, with his pace and energy making him an offensive threat and a reliable option defensively.

But, again, Liverpool could be set to miss out on a third target to Real Madrid. That’s ebcause the Spanish side are firm favourites to secure the signature of Davies and have made it clear that they are willing to fork out a significant fee to fend off rival interest and strike a deal with Bayern for the 23-year-old.
