PSG might have defeated Real Sociedad 2-0 in the Champions League on Wednesday, but that has not stopped centre-back Marquinhos being accused of ‘s***ing himself’ on the big occasion.

Les Parisiens claimed victory thanks to goals from Kylian Mbappe and Bradley Barcola, but while they did not allow La Real a shot on target, their defence was unconvincing and disjointed at times.

In the first half, particularly, PSG looked shaken. Mikel Merino even hit the bar for the visitors with a missile from range that was not far from the top corner of Gianluigi Donnarumma’s goal.

“We didn’t manage to make the difference in the first half. But we spoke to each other at half-time, the coach pulled our ears, and it helped. In the second half, it was much better in the attitude, especially our personality with the ball to avoid their pressing.

“What did the coach tell us? He was very angry. He always tells us the truth. He motivated us a lot to have this personality to get the ball out and create spaces by beating their pressing.”

Nevertheless, the performance led to criticism of Marquinhos, whose displays in the Champions League have recently been called into question.

“There’s a real Marquinhos problem in the Champions League,” journalist Daniel Riolo claimed to RMC.

“When he’s playing, he has s*** on his thighs. He’s freaking out. Honestly, I don’t know. He always seems to be scared when he has the ball. The experience he has is the experience of a loser.”

Marquinhos’ brother hits back

It did not take long for Riolo’s words to make an impact, with the brother of Marquinhos taking to social media to threaten the journalist.

“If you are a man, tell me everything you said today to my face. We’ll see who’s going to s*** themselves. I hope that we’ll meet soon,” he said.

Marquinhos has been with PSG since signing from Roma for €31 million in the summer of 2013 and is closing in on becoming their record appearance maker.

The Brazil international is just a couple of outings short of Jean-Marc Pilorget’s mark of 435 and is clear of everyone in club history when it comes to playing in European competition.

PSG’s record in the Champions League, though, has been lamentable in recent years as they have crashed out in the last 16 in five of the last seven campaigns – the type of record that Riolo has slammed Marquinhos over.
