Bayern Munich are monitoring Ole Gunnar Solskjaer as a potential interim replacement for Thomas Tuchel, according to German media.

Tuchel is under pressure at the German record champions after three successive defeats have left them on the verge of winning no silverware whatsoever this term. After a decade of complete domestic dominance, something like this has become unheard of.

Yet Bayern will most likely come away from this season empty-handed unless Bayer Leverkusen suffer a collapse of epic proportions or the Bavarians go on a spectacular run in the Champions League. Tuchel, for his part, has already admitted that he does not expect any tangible success to come his way this term.

Poor results, coupled with off-field drama such as Joshua Kimmich’s post-Bochum bust-up with assistant coach Zsolt Low, are leading to ever-louder calls for the former Chelsea and PSG boss to be sacked. While Bayern chiefs have so far kept the faith, they are looking at potential replacements.

Solskjaer to Bayern?

According to Florian Plettenberg of Sky Germany, former Man Utd head coach Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is one of the options currently under consideration for an interim role should Tuchel be sacked. The Norwegian has been out of a job since getting the boot from United in November 2021.

The journalist reports that Solskjaer is ready for a new challenge and that Bayern sporting director Christoph Freund has been following the 50-year-old for years. However, at this stage, there are no concrete talks underway as the Bundesliga giants are still sticking to their original plan of trusting Tuchel.

Nevertheless, the Red Devils legend would be an intriguing option. Bayern have also been linked with the likes of Zinedine Zidane and Jose Mourinho in recent days, while Xabi Alonso is reportedly considered the club’s ‘dream’ appointment.
