Manchester United will try to sign a new left-back in the summer, according to Fabrizio Romano.

The Red Devils will splash the cash in the next transfer window in a bid to prevent a repeat of this season, with Erik ten Hag’s men well off the pace in the Premier League. The funds provided by Sir Jim Ratcliffe’s investment will help the Dutchman overhaul his side, while additional money could be raised with big-name sales.

Man Utd are now reportedly willing to entertain offers for €95 million flop Antony, while Jadon Sancho will most likely also be expected to leave, though his value continues on a downward spiral amid his increasingly worrying form at Borussia Dortmund.

It has been known for some time that Ten Hag wants to revamp his defence and attack, with the Dutchman openly admitting that he wanted to bring in a striker in January to support young Rasmus Hojlund. The Red Devils will also conceivably have to target a new holding midfielder and potentially a right-back as well.

Now, Fabrizio Romano has revealed that signing a new left-back is also very high on Erik ten Hag’s summer agenda.

Ten Hag eyes new left-back

Luke Shaw and Tyrell Malacia have been injured for most of the season and Sergio Reguilon was sent back to Tottenham in January in a move that has now come back to bite the Red Devils. With Shaw only having penned a new deal in April, Man Utd will target a youngster rather than an established star, according to Romano.

“Left-back is going to be another position to keep an eye on at Manchester United,” the transfer expert said on his Here We Go Podcast. “Because the injury to Luke Shaw, very negative season for Tyrell Malacia in terms of injury, very unlucky season for Tyrell Malacia, means that now Man Utd will look at [a] new left-back in the summer.”

“They already considered the possibility for [Marc] Cucurella last summer before signing Reguilon. Now, they are assessing also different options – young, talented left-backs. And so I think Man Utd will be active on the market for a young left-back to bring something new in that position for the future.”
