Man Utd tipped for rogue Mikel Arteta swoop as star gives insight on manager’s thinking | Football | Sport

Arsenal are currently in third place in the table, behind Manchester City and Liverpool, and they look set to be in the frame to lift the title at the end of the season. Arteta’s project has quickly come together over the past few campaigns, with his precise transfer plans and patience with young prospects now bearing fruit.

If the Gunners fail to go one better than last season then Arteta’s side are likely to only be a sprinkling of talent away from Premier League glory – with a marquee striker widely believed to be what could be the difference maker in the dying embers of the campaign.

However, Ferdinand believes that Arsenal would be relying on a fresh face in the Emirates dugout to guide the club to the title if United opt to pursue Arteta over the summer. The ex-Red Devils star is ‘100 per cent’ certain that the Spaniard would be willing to upsticks and head to Old Trafford if he received a call from the Gunners’ rivals.

Speaking on his FIVE YouTube channel, Ferdinand explained: “Arteta would leave Arsenal to join Man United, 100 per cent.

“No one is saying it’s happening but if Man United in a wild dream said, ‘do you know what, Erik ten Hag, thank you’ or Erik ten Hag has been poached by Bayern Munich and he goes there, and then Man United say ‘top of the list is Arteta’ then Arteta is going in and saying to the lads, ‘listen, guys, it’s been emotional but I’ve got to move, I’ve got to go.”
