Mauricio Pochettino digs out Gary Neville after Chelsea scrape past Leeds | Football | Sport

Conor Gallagher popped up in the 90th minute of Wednesday night’s game against Leeds with a crucial winner for Chelsea, during what was a frantic end-to-end cup tie. Defeat against the Championship side would’ve all but ended Chelsea’s campaign, with the west Londoners boasting very little to play for in the Premier League.

Speaking after Chelsea progressed into the FA Cup quarter-finals, Pochettino told ITV Sport: “I think if you are talking about my friend Gary [Neville], I think he was frustrated because Liverpool won another title. That is the truth.”

Neville was referring to the fact a patched-up Liverpool swept past Chelsea in the League Cup final, despite the Blues having spent over £1billion on transfers since the beginning of last season. Pochettino was stern in his response to Neville’s criticism, claiming it’s unfair to accuse a young side of lacking bottle.

He added: “I’ve already spoken about that, I don’t think it’s fair to accuse some in that way. A team that is very young and the expectations are massive because we are at Chelsea.
