Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp offers Mohamed Salah injury update and raises illness fears | Football | Sport

The winger briefly returned for Liverpool’s 4-1 win over Brentford on February 17, scoring once and assisting a further goal in the big victory. However, it was claimed afterwards that he had felt discomfort in the same area.

Salah has subsequently missed Liverpool’s last three matches. He is one of 12 injury doubts heading into the clash with Forest on Saturday.

Klopp said of his star player’s recovery: “I don’t think Mo is too far off but he will not be on the pitch tomorrow and from there we have to go. Touch and go, Mo is a bit longer, maybe next week is possible, he is on the way back, definitely. Not for tomorrow.”

Liverpool are hoping that their injury list will be reduced over the coming weeks. The Carabao Cup champions still have five matches before the international break, which has been earmarked as a period when long-term absentees can be slowly reintegrated into first-team training.

The fitness of Darwin Nunez and Dominik Szoboszlai will be monitored after they returned to training on Thursday. Endo Wataru has also been missing and could train later on Friday.

Klopp also revealed that Alexis Mac Allister and Andy Robertson have struggled with illness this week. The Liverpool boss is desperate for the mystery bug to not sweep through his squad and create further problems.

“Darwin and Dom trained yesterday with the team. We’ll see how they react,” the German, 56, said.

“Endo and Robbo didn’t but there’s a plan they join today. Ibou (Ibrahima Konate)…is nothing, time sharing. Lucho (Luis Diaz) is fine. Macca is fine. All look.
