Tottenham and Man Utd suffer costly blow as Everton ‘make preparations’ for double exit | Football | Sport

Tottenham and Manchester United face being bled dry by Everton this summer if they firm up their interest in Jarrad Branthwaite. The Toffees reportedly opted against including a release clause in the youngster’s contract in the hope of banking a larger transfer fee if he moves on, having done the same with Jordan Pickford.

Everton are up to 15th in the Premier League table after seeing their 10-point deduction reduced to six points on appeal. However, Sean Dyche’s side are at risk of being slapped with another penalty before the end of the campaign due to an alleged breach of the Premier League’s Profit and Sustainability Rules.

The Toffees are in dire straits financially and auctioning off their top stars will be inevitable if they drop down to the Championship. Branthwaite will likely be one of the first players out the door with multiple top European clubs keeping tabs on the 21-year-old.

Reports indicate that Man Utd boss Erik ten Hag and Spurs manager Ange Postecoglou are particularly fond of Branthwaite, while Chelsea, Arsenal and Real Madrid have also enquired about a summer switch.

His services won’t come cheap, however. According to The Daily Mail, Everton purposely opted against including a release clause – or even one that takes effect in the case of relegation – when tying Branthwaite down to a new deal in October.

The highest bidder will therefore win the inevitable summer transfer tussle, and Everton have been tipped to demand up to £100million. It remains to be seen whether either Spurs or the Red Devils are willing to meet their demands.

The Carlisle-born defender impressed on loan at PSV Eindhoven in 2022/23, and he has started all bar three of Everton’s 26 Premier League matches this campaign.

Branthwaite is even being tipped for a late surge into Gareth Southgate’s England squad for Euro 2024, which Pickford is nailed-on to be a part of if he remains fit for the tournament.
