Man Utd news: Thomas Tuchel’s ‘stance’ on taking job as Chelsea put on red alert | Football | Sport

Thomas Tuchel is reportedly intent on returning to the Premier League, and the Manchester United job has piqued his interest. A second spell at Chelsea is also believed to be under consideration as Blues co-owner Todd Boehly mulls over a change of management at the end of the season.

Mauricio Pochettino has underwhelmed at Stamford Bridge, along with every other manager to have tried their luck since Tuchel’s departure 18 months ago. The German was ruthlessly axed just over a year after leading the Blues to a Champions League triumph.

Now at Bayern Munich, Tuchel is set to become available in the summer having agreed to part ways with the German giants. Bayern are at risk of missing out on what would be a 12th consecutive Bundesliga title and going the whole season without picking up a trophy.

Although Tuchel’s stock has suffered, he remains hot property on the European market, and Sky Germany claim his ‘greatest short-term desire’ is to come back to the Premier League and finish what he started.

While that will put Chelsea on high alert, United could also come into the equation with Erik ten Hag underachieving in his second season at the helm. The same report states that Tuchel is ‘interested’ in the Old Trafford project.

A prospective new manager at United would have the backing of new part-owner Sir Jim Ratcliffe, who is set to pump hundreds of millions into improving the playing squad and the club’s infrastructure.

Qualification for the Champions League is therefore hanging by a thread as Ten Hag gears up for a tense final few weeks of the campaign. Tuchel isn’t the only high-profile boss set to be on the market this summer.

Xavi and Jurgen Klopp are leaving their posts at Barcelona and Liverpool respectively, while the likes of Bayer Leverkusen boss Xabi Alonso and Brighton manager Roberto De Zerbi are attracting significant attention.
