Jurgen Klopp has expressed his anger after Liverpool were denied a late penalty in their 1-1 draw against Manchester City.

The Reds were the superior team at Anfield and Klopp believes they should’ve been awarded a penalty after Jeremy Doku’s high challenge on Alexis Mac Allister in stoppage time.

The Man City winger caught Mac Allister on the chest with his boot, but the incident was waved away by on-field referee Michael Oliver and VAR after Doku was adjudged to have played the ball first.

However, Klopp was extremely frustrated by the decision.

What has Jurgen Klopp said?

Speaking to Sky Sports after the match, Klopp said: “Isn’t [VAR] there for just making the right decision and not thinking about how high the bar is to overturn it to find the right decision?

“This situation, in all positions across the pitch, is 100 per cent a foul and a yellow card.

“He hit the ball but only because his foot is [high]. If the ball is not there, he kills him.

Klopp continued by adding: “You will find people… did you appoint Mike Dean, is he working for Sky? Congratulations, that’s a great appointment by the way. He will find something and all the others as well.

“This is a penalty for all football people on the planet, it’s a penalty. If you think it’s not one then maybe you’re not a football person.

“Really, forget the ref things and stuff like this, I’m here for football. For us, so many things we’ve overcome this season already.

“But today we showed we are ready to fight as the race goes on. And I love that the most,” he concluded.

Liverpool’s next match comes against Sparta Praha on Thursday in the second-leg of their Europa League last-16 tie. The Reds are 5-1 up after a dominant first-leg performance.
