BBC pundit tells Martin Keown he’ll be ‘waiting in the car park’ after cocky remark | Football | Sport

Arsenal legend Martin Keown was told that his fellow BBC pundit, Dion Dublin, would be ‘waiting in the car park’ after Chelsea’s win over Leicester City on Sunday. Keown had described exactly how he would get the better of Dublin if they met in competitive action, cockily stating that Gary Lineker was the only ex-player in the studio who may have caused him some problems.

Keown was asked by BBC commentator Jonathan Pearce how Leicester could firm up defensively after conceding twice against Chelsea in the first half of their all-action FA Cup quarter-final.

The Gunners legend’s response was to try and force the opposition attackers as wide as possible, admitting that is the approach he would take to stifle a star-studded studio striker line-up comprising Dublin, Lineker and Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink.

“I would have shown [Dublin and Hasselbaink] down the line,” said Keown, minutes into the second half at Stamford Bridge. “I think Gary [Lineker] is the only one who might have given me a bit of trouble with his pace. But I think I could deal with them.”

Pearce then chimed in with a cheeky message from the studio, saying: “I’m hearing now that Dion Dublin will be waiting for you in the car park.”

Dublin, like fellow pundits Lineker and Hasselbaink, scored well over a century of goals in the English top flight during a glittering career. Keown, meanwhile, was a formidable defender who shone in the 1980s and 1990s.

The Foxes went down to 10 men as the final whistle approached, and they were punished in second-half stoppage time as Carney Chukwuemeka and Noni Madueke struck to punch Chelsea’s ticket to Wembley.

“The coach said go on and express yourself, which I did,” Chukwuemeka told the BBC. “Cole said to me before the game, if I come on, he will assist me and fair play. His IQ is amazing, I knew as soon as I played it, he would find me. Fair play to him.”
