Man City open talks with goalkeeper as £200,000 offer placed on the table | Football | Sport

Manchester City will reportedly reward goalkeeper Ederson’s consistency under Pep Guardiola with a bumper contract extension. The Premier League champions are keen to open talks with the Brazilian over a new deal as soon as possible.

Come the summer, Ederson will still have two years remaining on his £120,000 per-week deal at the Etihad Stadium. However, there is eagerness among the club’s hierarchy to get the 30-year-old tied down for longer.

Unlike many of City’s stars who advance beyond 30, Ederson is reportedly set to see his salary significantly increased in an attempt to persuade him to remain for the foreseeable future. According to the Daily Star, a £200,000 per-week offer is set to be placed in front of the shot-stopper.

Ederson has earned a reputation as one of the world’s best goalkeepers since his 2017 transfer from Benfica. A £35million fee was a record for a goalkeeper at the time but now seems like a bargain.

The Brazil international has won five Premier League titles, four League Cups, two FA Cups, a Champions League and a Club World Cup during his seven years in England. He has made 325 appearances since joining the Treble winners.

Ederson faces being absent until after the international break due to a thigh injury. He suffered the problem during the same incident in which he conceded a penalty in City’s 1-1 draw with Liverpool last weekend.

His injury means Ederson will miss out on the chance to win just a 26th international cap for Brazil, with Liverpool goalkeeper Alisson Becker also unavailable for the South Americans.

“Eddie is getting better, hopefully he’ll be ready after the international break,” Guardiola said on Friday.
