Real Madrid president Florentino Perez intends to meet with Manchester United winger Alejandro Garnacho, when he visits Manchester for a Champions League showdown against treble-winners Man City next month, in order to convince the 19-year-old to move to the Bernabeu.

That’s according to a shock new report by Madrid-based media outlet Defensa Central.

Madrid’s interest in Garnacho is not new, with it being widely reported that they tried to sign him before his latest contract renewal with United was announced last year.

Having burst onto the scene after signing for the club as a 16-year-old in October 2020, Garnacho put pen to paper on a fresh, five-year contract in April 2023.

Madrid chief scout a big fan of Garnacho

The three-time Argentina international is now tied to Old Trafford until 2028 but it’s now being reported in Spain that Perez is ready to make another attempt to sign the winger.

Madrid-born Garnacho, who holds dual Argentine-Spanish nationality, was a youth team player for Getafe and Atletico Madrid before moving to the Premier League, and it’s well documented that he holds Cristiano Ronaldo as his idol.

As such it might well be an attractive prospect to follow in the Portugal legend’s footsteps at the Bernabeu.

The 14-time European champions would appear to be well-stocked in the wide areas currently with Vinicius Junior and Rodrygo currently occupying the flanks and Kylian Mbappe also set to join in summer.

Nonetheless, Madrid chief scout Juni Calafat is said to be a big fan of Garnacho and has been personally keeping tabs on his progress, according to reports.

Garnacho is United’s breakout star this season

Garnacho has got seven goals and four assists in all competitions for United this season and was prominent in their FA Cup quarter-final victory over Liverpool on Sunday.

He has emerged as a genuine first-team star under Erik ten Hag this season, scoring an unbelievable overhead kick against Everton in December and, in the same month, netting twice in a 3-2 comeback win against Aston Villa, earning the man of the match award.

Club insiders even believe that the teenager can go on and become as good as Cristiano Ronaldo, who swapped Old Trafford for the Bernabeu in 2009.

Garnacho has also demonstrated his versatility, playing either side of Ten Hag’s attack in the left and right wing positions, although his decision-making has come under fire from Rio Ferdinand.
