As part of the deal that saw him move to the MLS, he took a pay cut from a reported £16.6million down to £5.4m per year.

However, the transfer saw him given the opportunity to start his own team when he retired that would be handed a place in the league for just £19.7m.

The only rule was that he could not found his new club in New York.

Beckham therefore opted to launch Inter Miami in 2018.

The popularity of the club is continuously growing with star man Lionel Messi helping the eyes of the football world turn to them.

There has been “Messi mania” in the US and the overall value of the club is up 74 per cent from last year following the signing.

The additions of ex-Barcelona stars Jordi Alba, Sergio Busquets and Luis Suarez have also helped make the club a fortune.

Sportico report that Inter Miami is worth around £803m in the current market.

The club have climbed up seven places in the MLS value richlist.

Only Los Angeles FC and Atlanta United are worth more.

And Beckham’s men have started the 2024 campaign promisingly and they are joint-top after five matches.
