At Anderlecht, everyone agrees that the management has often had a keen eye in recent years.
They have indeed managed to secure players who have significantly contributed to the club’s success. Some during a single season, especially when the club had to rely on loans to afford certain players’ services.
The Player Everyone Wants
By bringing in Joshua Zirkzee, the Brussels side took a gamble on a player who had just come off an unremarkable loan spell at Parma and was not attracting interest from any Italian teams. Owned by Bayern Munich, the forward was set to make the most of his time at Lotto Park to make a name for himself.
However, it was a mid-tier Italian club that ended up paying the 8.5 million euros demanded by the Bavarians. Bologna invested wisely, providing Thiago Motta with players capable of challenging for the top spots in Serie A.
The club has since exceeded expectations by qualifying for the next edition of the Champions League and securing third place in the standings with one match to go.
For the club, the next challenge will be to maintain this momentum, which will not be easy. Motta is on Juventus’ radar as they seek a replacement for Massimiliano Allegri, who was dismissed two days after winning the Coppa Italia.
The club will also need to try to retain its top players, including Zirkzee, who is now valued at 50 million euros. While this price tag may deter many clubs, others will not see it as a barrier. It remains to be seen if one of them steps forward and if the various parties can reach an agreement.
