Cercle Bruges, just scraping into the seeded positions, will avoid major challenges in the second preliminary round of the Europa League.
Cercle Bruges has had one of the finest seasons in its history, culminating in a fourth-place finish secured by a draw on Club’s pitch and Genk’s defeat at Union.
The Groen & Zwart will thus find themselves in the Europa League next season, kicking off their European adventure in the second preliminary round.
Cercle Avoids Major Challenges… for Now?
Luckily, thanks to Belgium’s UEFA coefficient, Cercle Bruges will be the last seed in this second preliminary round, thus sidestepping several heavyweights: Ajax, Braga, Molde, Rapid Vienna, Rijeka, and Trabzonspor cannot be met until the next round.
However, Miron Muslic’s players could still face a very tough matchup, such as against Panathinaikos, for example.
The other potential opponents include Kilmarnock, Silkeborg, and Vojvodina, while others are yet to be determined. Cercle could also face the winner of the Israeli Cup (Hapoel Beer Sheva or Petach Tikva), Tobol, or Wisla Krakow.
