We finally know if Thibaut Courtois will start on Saturday, in the Champions League final. No surprise from Carlo Ancelotti!

The false suspense is finally over. For several weeks, we have been asking ourselves a question: will Thibaut Courtois start in the Champions League final this Saturday? The Belgian goalkeeper assures us: he is 100% back to his best. In 4 La Liga matches, Courtois has indeed seemed particularly sharp.

But a doubt remained: Andriy Lunin was very good in the Champions League semi-final and Courtois has only just returned from injury. Carlo Ancelotti kept the suspense going about the identity of the Madrid goalkeeper on Saturday.

On Thursday, however, some news from England seemed to point to a start for Courtois. Indeed, Andriy Lunin is reportedly sick, and has therefore joined London (where the final is being played) separately from the rest of the group. The Ukrainian is reportedly suffering from the flu.

Courtois will start in the final

On Friday, Carlo Ancelotti put an end to the suspense: it is Thibaut Courtois who will start in goal for Real Madrid this Saturday. Even if Lunin has indeed made the trip to London, he will be “on the bench”, the Italian coach said.

Thibaut Courtois has therefore succeeded in his gamble: the Belgian will start in the Champions League final, and will try to help Real Madrid win the most prestigious trophy in Europe this Saturday against Borussia Dortmund. Afterwards, Courtois will be… on holiday, as he will not be joining the Red Devils squad, unless there is a huge surprise.
