Standard are going through a dark period, but on Sunday, Liège fans were able to enjoy themselves once again. The Circus Cup, a charity competition involving many former international stars as well as some former Sclessin favourites, was held in Liège.
Marouane Fellaini, who retired from football last February, was able to return to the Sclessin pitch. The former Red Devil even scored a header, just like in the good old days.
After the match, the former midfielder could not hide his joy: “It’s always a pleasure to come back to Standard, the fans are always there.”
He was also asked about Axel Witsel’s return to the Devils: “I think he will bring something extra to the team. It’s a good thing because we didn’t have many experienced defenders.”
For Marouane, Belgium should not go to the Euros to make up the numbers: “The objective? Aim for the semi-finals, as we did at the 2018 World Cup,” he concluded.
