Six young Belgian players are among the 100 nominees for the 2024 Golden Boy award, given to the best player under the age of 21 playing in a European league.
The new generation is gradually taking over, in the national team. After the 2022 World Cup, Domenico Tedesco was appointed national coach with the aim of accompanying this new generation, this new team to the top.
While Vertonghen, De Bruyne, Lukaku, Carrasco and Meunier are still there, the Dokus, Bakayoko, Opendas, Debasts, De Ketelaeres and co now occupy a prominent place in the group. And behind them, it’s still pushing.
As every year, the Italian media “Tuttosport” has unveiled its list of 100 nominees for the 2024 Golden Boy, a prize awarded to the best player playing in a European league born on January 1, 2024 or after.
Six young Belgians nominated for the 2024 Golden Boy! A prestigious list, which includes six young Belgian players: Malick Fofana, Arthur Vermeeren, Matte Smets, Mathias Delorge, Jorne Spileers and Mario Stroeykens.
These players were nominated on the basis of the first six months of the calendar year. In the autumn, there will be a further cull, after which there will only be 25 potential winners left.
Currently, the ten favourites are: Lamine Yamal (Barça), Warren Zaïre-Emery (PSG), Joao Neves (Benfica), Garnacho (Manchester United), Leny Yoro (Lille), Pau Cubarsi (Barça), Savio (Girona), Rico Lewis (Manchester City), Kobbie Mainoo (Manchester United) and Mathys Tel (Bayern Munich).
