According to information from the Dutch newspaper Algemeen Dagblad, a former Standard player has been arrested in the Netherlands, along with his girlfriend and parents, for drug trafficking and money laundering.
The player in question is believed to be Ron Stam. The Dutch defender played for NAC Breda (180 appearances), FC Twente (81 appearances), Wigan Athletic (73 appearances) and Standard (30 appearances) during his career.
His brother is also known to the courts, having been sentenced to 54 months in prison for money laundering and cocaine dealing. However, there is no indication that there is any link between the two cases.
