Michy Batshuayi in Gala kit to make Turkish football history: here is the contract offered by Fenerbahce’s sworn enemy

The striker is on the verge of signing a three-year contract to join Dries Mertens.

Besiktas fans already held a grudge against him when he switched to their arch-rivals Fenerbahce in 2022. Even though he had a round trip to London and Chelsea in between, Michy Batshuayi was considered a traitor when he crossed the Bosphorus to switch from Besiktas’ Vodafone Park to Fenerbahce’s Sukru Saracoglu Stadium. Now, he will also have Fener fans on his back.

Batsman is indeed preparing to return to the other side of the Istanbul Strait, but this time to sign with Galatasaray and become the first foreigner to wear the shirt of all three of Istanbul’s big clubs. An agreement has reportedly been reached between the player and Dries Mertens’ club, according to Turkish media outlet Sport Cell, which claims that the medical visit has even been validated in a French hospital.

All that remains is to wait until July 1, the day after his current contract expires, to see him sign with Fenerbahce’s biggest rival, who has just won the Turkish championship title ahead of Batshuayi’s team for the second time in a row. Unless Fener makes a better offer in the next few days. Because one of the reasons for this new betrayal is financial, according to the Turkish press.

Three years, three million

The national daily Milliyet claims in any case that the 30-year-old striker has rejected the terms of the extension offered to him. Namely, a contract until 2027 and an annual salary of three million euros. Galatasaray, for its part, has reportedly aligned itself with the wage offer while adding a total signing bonus of three million euros. This makes for a package of twelve million over three seasons.

The other argument is sporting. Dries Mertens’ club, who are said to have personally spoken to their compatriot to convince him to join them, have a good chance of participating in the next Champions League thanks to their place in the play-offs, unlike Fener who have three qualifying rounds to go through. There is also competition in attack: José Mourinho is planning to recruit a new top striker to support Edin Dzeko. While Mauro Icardi, who could leave this summer, is currently the only other number nine at Gala.
