Jupiler Pro League: Bruges defender joins Antwerp on a free transfer!

It had been on the cards for a while, but the news was officially confirmed on Wednesday: Denis Odoi, who was out of contract with the Blauw en zwart, is leaving Club Bruges for Antwerp on a free transfer.

The 36-year-old versatile Ghanaian international defender (14 caps) has signed a two-year contract with the Antwerp club, announced the Matricule 1 in a statement published on its website.

Odoi joined Bruges in January 2022 from Fulham, whom he had joined in 2016.

The Leuven-born player had previously played for Oud-Heverlee Leuven (2007-2008), Saint-Trond (2008-2011), Anderlecht (2011-2013) and Lokeren (2013-2016).

He also wore the Red Devils jersey once in a friendly match against Montenegro (2-2) on May 25, 2012.

He then chose to defend the colours of Ghana, and played in the 2022 World Cup with the Black Stars.

Denis Odoi made 39 appearances for Club Bruges this season, and played an important role in the Blauw en zwart’s title win.

Scorer of the only goal in the Anderlecht topper that relaunched Bruges’ title race, he had saved a ball on the line in the derby against Cercle (0-0) on the last day of the play-offs 1, at the end of which the Bruges team won their 19th league title.

Odoi leaves with two Belgian league titles to his name

Out of contract at the Jan Breydel, Odoi did not extend his contract, as no agreement could be reached between the parties.

In total, he will have played 93 matches in the Bruges shirt (four goals, one assist), and won two Belgian league titles in 2022 and 2024.

He had already won the title with Anderlecht in 2013.

Antwerp will travel to Charleroi on July 28 for the first day of the Jupiler Pro League.
