Romelu Lukaku is hoping to redeem himself against France next Monday after a disappointing European Championship so far. In the meantime, speculation about his club future is rife.
Officially, Lukaku still belongs to Chelsea. The Blues paid a hefty sum to bring the striker back to London in the summer of 2021. But for various reasons, his second spell at Stamford Bridge was disappointing. After just a year, he was therefore loaned back to Inter.
After failing to reach an agreement to extend his stay in Milan last summer, Lukaku once again had to look for a solution elsewhere. And it was in Serie A that he found it. This time, he was loaned to AS Roma. The striker had a more than decent season there and was often in the starting line-up.
In Search of a New Club
However, a prolonged stay in the capital seems out of the question. As the club has definitively missed out on a Champions League ticket, the financial means are too limited for a permanent transfer. In principle, the striker will therefore return to Chelsea, but it is no longer a secret that the club wants to get rid of him permanently.
To do so, the Blues are reportedly targeting £38 million, or €45 million. The question is which team is willing to invest such a sum for his arrival. In any case, there is no shortage of interest. His former coach Antonio Conte, for example, would like to bring him to SSC Napoli.
Lukaku Open to a Move
This week, we learned that AC Milan, who are looking for a successor to Olivier Giroud, are also interested. And according to La Gazzetta dello Sport, Lukaku himself is also open to this transfer. Given his past at Internazionale, it would be a rather surprising move. But the striker seems open to an adventure at San Siro. We will therefore wait and see if the Rossoneri take action. In addition, the media claims that the asking price has now dropped to around €30 million.
