Charleroi cruised to a 3-0 victory over Mons in their first pre-season friendly, providing an opportunity for manager Rik De Mil to test some of his younger players.
While the European Championships are just about to enter the round of 16 stage, our Pro League clubs have already been back in training for a while. Tonight, Charleroi played their first pre-season friendly against Mons.
The Tondreau was well-filled for the Zèbres’ visit. Promoted to D1 ACFF, RAEC has made some interesting signings in recent weeks and therefore offered a good first test for Sporting.
In addition to Alessandro Cordaro’s reunion with his former club, the evening was also marked by a tribute to Cédric Roussel, who passed away a little over a year ago. His daughter gave the kick-off for the match.
Rik De Mil fielded some youngsters, such as prospect José Capon, as well as several established players such as Adem Zorgane, Daan Heymans, Youssouph Badji, Isaac Mbenza and new signings Théo Defoury and Mardochée Nzita.
Stulic already sharp
The Zèbres struggled to create any real danger early on, with Mons almost taking the lead after 25 minutes through a great chance for Teddy Chevalier. However, the visitors finally found the breakthrough at the end of the first half from a corner that was poorly dealt with by the Mons goalkeeper.
With an almost completely changed team at the break, Charleroi almost doubled their lead at the start of the second half but Parfait Guiagon missed his penalty completely. It took until the last quarter of an hour for Nikola Stulic to add two more goals to make it 3-0.
