A Belgian club missed out on Georges Mikautadze

Georges Mikautadze has already scored three goals in this European Championship, two of them penalties. A year ago, the Georgian striker was in the sights of a major Belgian club, but he was far too expensive.

Racing Genk inquired about Mikautadze

Het Belang van Limburg reports that KRC Genk would have liked to sign Mikautadze a year ago. He had already made a splash at Seraing, where he had scored 36 goals and provided four assists in 57 matches.

The striker returned to FC Metz. Ajax eventually signed him for 16 million euros, much to the dismay of the Limburgers. The striker failed to make an impact at Ajax, scoring not a single goal and providing not a single assist in 9 appearances (345 minutes) in half a season.

Failure at Ajax

He returned to FC Metz on loan and, during this half-season in Ligue 1, he demonstrated his value with 13 goals and 4 assists in 20 matches. FC Metz exercised the purchase option for 13 million euros. His good performances have attracted the interest of teams like RC Lens and AS Monaco.

However, the big European teams are not interested. While Mikautadze is a good finisher, he does not have the profile to play alone in attack. Because of this profile, one has to wonder if he really has the level for a top club.
