Gent will have to rebuild their squad in this transfer window. The Buffalos have just recorded a new departure.
Gent’s attack has already undergone numerous changes in the last six months. In January, Hugo Cuypers, Malick Fofana and Gift Orban left. Laurent Depoitre’s contract was not renewed.
To strengthen itself, the club acquired Swedish top talent Sonko for seven million euros last winter, and Andri Gudjohnsen was also recruited this summer. In addition, the young Abdullahi was transferred from the U23 team.
In the meantime, the East Flanders club has said goodbye to Nigerian Goodluck Igbokwe after three years. With Gent’s U23s, he scored 16 times in 53 appearances in Nationale 1.
But in the first team, Igbokwe never really had his chance. He was only included in Gent’s match squad once. That was in September 2023, for a Conference League match against Zorya Luhansk.
Now, he will try his luck in Portugal, at Rio Ave. Igbokwe has signed for two seasons and has left Gent on a free transfer.
