Antwerp targeting Pro League bargain to replace Jean Butez

Jean Butez set to depart Antwerp once again. Will Gaëtan Coucke replace him between the posts?

Antwerp fans were on the edge of their seats last summer as rumors swirled about Jean Butez’s potential departure. The French goalkeeper had attracted interest from Burnley and Vincent Kompany’s Burnley.

This summer, the 29-year-old Lille native appears poised to seek a new challenge once again, prompting the Bosuil Stadium to scout for a new goalkeeper.

Gaëtan Coucke on Antwerp’s radar

Despite having Senne Lammens in their ranks, the Antwerp side are still considering reinforcements in goal. At 21, the former Club Brugge player seized his chance during the Playoffs.

Nevertheless, the arrival of a new goalkeeper seems inevitable. Het Nieuwsblad reports that Antwerp are interested in Gaëtan Coucke.

At 25, Coucke appears ready to take a step up after four full seasons at Mechelen and has the advantage of being a free agent.
