He is one of the last remaining members of the Union Saint-Gilloise dressing room and was out of contract. Guillaume François has extended his stay at the Parc Duden!
The improbable adventure continues for Guillaume François. La Dernière Heure reveals that the 34-year-old Union Saint-Gilloise full-back will extend his contract for another season at the Parc Duden, having been out of contract on June 30.
François had already extended his contract last year despite interest from several clubs where he could have gone in search of more playing time. However, he feels good at USG, where the fans adore him and he plays a role that goes beyond sport.
Guillaume François only played 7 matches last season with Union, his lowest total since the club’s return to D1A. He didn’t even play in the Playoffs 1, but no matter: the right-back accepts this role within the dressing room.
Having arrived at USG in 2020, Guillaume François is one of the last survivors of the team that won promotion to D1A. Among these are still Christian Burgess, Anthony Moris, Loïc Lapoussin and, now, Sébastien Pocognoli in another role.
Guillaume François has played for Sporting Charleroi, Beerschot, Virton and Excelsior Mouscron in his career. He has also been capped 8 times at U21 level for Belgium.
