Julien De Sart left for Qatar this summer. Gent have just announced his replacement, Atsuki Ito.
Gent have experienced numerous departures this summer. The Buffalos have notably said goodbye to Tarik Tissoudali, but also Paul Nardi, Jorthy Mokio and Laurent Depoitre.
Gent have also had to part ways with Julien De Sart. The midfielder was keen to find a new club. The management were unable to retain him.
They then turned to a replacement. That replacement is Atsuki Ito. The Japanese player arrives from Urawa Red Diamonds.
“Gent have strengthened their midfield with the Japanese Atsuki Ito. He joins us from Japanese first division club Urawa Red Diamonds and has signed a four-year contract with Gent,” the statement reads.
“Ito has been on our radar for some time. After Julien De Sart’s departure, we needed to bring in some experience,” said Gent’s sporting director Arnar Vidarsson. “We see him as a box-to-box player who should be able to handle the intensity of the Belgian league.”
