Wolke Janssens, a Saint-Trond player, lost his mother this week. The player has spoken out about this difficult time.
On Saturday, Saint-Trond could only manage a 3-3 draw against newly promoted Dender. Christian Lattanzio’s men conceded the equaliser in the 91st minute. This match left a bitter taste for the Canaries, who picked up their first point of the season.
However, football takes a back seat compared to what Saint-Trond defender Wolke Janssens, aged 29, has been through. The player lost his mother this week. On Tuesday, all the club’s players, the president and some of the staff attended the funeral, reports Het Belang van Limburg.
“The last few weeks have been very difficult,” the native of Peer said sadly.
A long battle
“My mother gave me strength and perseverance, and I am infinitely grateful to her. If you could have seen how hard she fought, it was incredible. She will always be my role model and will be by my side. It gives me courage…”
The former Lierse player also spoke about the match, trying to remain slightly positive: “When you’re leading 2-1, then 3-2 in the 90th minute after dominating the opponent, it’s obviously disappointing not to win. That disappointment won’t disappear in a few hours, but what we showed against the team considered to be the revelation of this season should still give us comfort. By continuing to play like this, we will quickly climb the table…”
