Vertonghen is still not fit, and the captain will not be back until mid-September.

Jan Vertonghen will be out for even longer than expected. The RSC Anderlecht captain continues to suffer from his Achilles tendon and is unlikely to return before mid-September. This is according to Het Laatste Nieuws.

This means that the Mauves et Blancs will not be able to count on their captain until after the international break. The European return leg against Dinamo Minsk and the league match against Union will therefore come too soon.

Achilles tendon problems

The 37-year-old captain played in the first two league matches of the season but has since been suffering from Achilles tendon problems.

Coach Brian Riemer had hoped that his captain would be back for the match against Dinamo Minsk but his recovery is clearly taking much longer than expected.
