The news that has been circulating for several days has now been confirmed. Cameron Puertas, last season’s league’s best player, is leaving Union to join Al-Qadsiah.
Since the start of the summer, it has been known that Cameron Puertas would be leaving Union Saint-Gilloise. However, it was thought that the winner of last season’s Pro League Awards, as the league’s best player, would opt for one of the top five European leagues.
Lacking sufficient offers and agreements, the midfielder ultimately found no solution, and had resumed the championship with the Belgian vice-champions.
Cameron Puertas joins Saudi Arabia and Koen Casteels
The solution emerged last week. Virtually unknown before his arrival in Belgium, Cameron Puertas has put his sporting ambitions on hold in favour of financial gain.
The news is official, the Swiss player has signed a four-year contract with Al-Qadsiah, a Saudi Arabian club where Koen Casteels also plays, who have just been promoted to the first division but are very ambitious. Union will receive a transfer fee of 15 million euros.
